Evaluating alternatives for decommissioning California's offshore oil and gas platforms.

This paper introduces a series of 6 additional papers in this issue that describe an in-depth analysis of options for decommissioning oil and gas platforms offshore southern California. Although current leases require lessees in both state and federal waters to completely remove all production facilities and restore the seafloor to its pre-platform condition, other options have emerged since th...

CFD Simulation of a Wetted-Wall Column for Natural Gas Sweetening ‎Using DEA Solution

Natural gas usually contains significant amounts of acid gases when it is extracted from underground reservoirs. Therefore, it must be treated by appropriate processes to remove these acidic components. In this study, the simultaneous absorption of carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide from natural gas into diethanol amine solution was simulated using CFD. Absorption process was performed in a we...

Retrofit Design for Gas Sweetening Processes

Gas sweetening using amines is an important gas treatment process. Existing gas sweetening units may be revamped to achieve a variety of aims, for example to expand processing capacity, to reduce operating costs, to accommodate a different feed, to reduce emissions levels, etc. Current practice for retrofit design is to use engineering judgement and experience and simulation studies to identify...

'Sweetening' natural products via glycorandomization.

In an effort to explore the contribution of the sugar constituents of pharmaceutically relevant glycosylated natural products, chemists have developed glycosylation methods for the generation of 'glycorandomized' libraries. Each member of these libraries is uniquely differentiated by an attached carbohydrate. Recently, two complementary glycorandomization strategies have emerged: chemoenzymatic...

Multi-Objective Optimization Programs and their Application to Amine Absorption Process Design for Natural Gas Sweetening

This chapter presents three MS Excel programs, namely, EMOO (Excel based Multi-Objective Optimization), NDS (Non-Dominated Sorting) and PM (Performance Metrics) useful for Multi-Objective Optimization (MOO) studies. The EMOO program is for finding non-dominated solutions of a given MOO problem. It has both binary-coded and realcoded NSGA-II (Elitist Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm), and...
